Rainbow Lorikeets are boisterous noisy gangsters of the bird world but are spectacularly beautiful. Watching a flock speeding through the trees you wonder how they manage to avoid hitting a trunk.
In this oil painting I have depicted them in a flowering Black Bean Tree (Castanospermum australe). Rainbows love to feed on the copious nectar presented by these flowers. The background to the subject is part of the Bellenden Ker Range in far north Queensland
