(Guereza Colobus Monkeys)
Guereza Colobus Monkeys are most spectacular with their white capes and tails flowing out as they make huge leaps from branch to branch or between trees. Although I was in Africa primarily to sketch hornbills and kingfishers for a book I could not resist the temptation to paint these fascinating and beautiful monkeys.
In the Aberdare Mountains of Kenya the colobus monkeys where rather shy and moved off not allowing time for sketching however, the tree where I saw them could not escape my sketchbook and so I did drawings of the branches and moss on the spot. Later I was able to sit and draw amongst a troupe of these monkeys near Lake Naivasha where people had been hand feeding them and they had become quite tame.
